where dragons live

words soar like storks
riding on dust devils
above the blue gums

words roost in chimney pots
in the lining of nests
abandoned for winter

words lie in the dry beds
of summer streams
waiting for rain

words wrapped in velvet
are hidden a drawer
under the socks you never wear

words travel fearlessly
to where dragons live
and then come home again

(this poem was written as a farewell to our writing teacher, who guided us safely through the realms of dragons and into the land of  words.)

It’s a fitting farewell to someone who either taught you quite a bit or told the other students Read this, and see how it’s done.
